Too many people have ideas that they are too scared to pursue because they perceive them as useless. They have topics of interest, but they are too timid to admit their love for it. This is because they fear others see it as weird or useless. Well, I have been there, and I have conquered that fear. I can tell you that every interest is solid, and worth pursuing.

The idea that certain topics are weird and useless is a concept that is unconsciously propagated in a climate that favours credentials over curiosity. This is why schools, especially higher institutions, are not the best places to pursue your curiosity. Universities and other institutions are there to feed you with what you need to 'serve' the common good. They are meant to manufacture economy machines. This means that you are left alone to nurture your curiosity. A task that is against your human need for association. But now, the burden is on you. And that burden gave way to EVOLUTION POINT.

Intellectual dungeons are real. They describe the locked-up, buried-deep loneliness that is only satisfied by intellectual engagement on your topics of interest. Imagine being locked underground, away from light and water, and denied contact with the outside world. That is how you probably feel when you have a topic or a question burning inside of you but you have no appropriate audience to relate it with. It is a terrible state to be in. I have been there.
