Dear reader, you are reading my Curious Weekend letter where I share some insight from the week and urge you to use the weekend to explore something interesting. So, if you have not subscribed to my newsletter yet, you can just do it now.
MY THOUGHTS EXACTLY
I was going over a book I completed, and I saw this quote by the author:
“my thinking is rooted in the belief that you cannot go from books to problems, but the reverse, from problems to books.”
Nicholas Nassim Taleb
And this is why I love books: someone says in fine words, things you already think but haven’t articulated.
The quote above again reminds me of why I don’t recommend books or throw books at people because “this book is good.” I believe that the curious mind is first an observant eye. Then it becomes a speculative thought. And finally, finds a path in articulated words. This has been my pathway- to find books that address my current question.
As the “curious guy,” this will always be my recommendation. If you ask me what book you should read, I will ask first what question you want answered. Once again, wonder is the spirit of philosophy.
I meet many people who want to read philosophy (as dilettantes) and they are usually bothered about reading books in a particular order (mostly academic order). I shake my head in pity for them because they will either fail along the way, or pick up the nasty attitudes of people squeezed into a Procrustean bed. Find your question; your interest, and then find your path. It is that simple.
So, if you have been thinking obsessively about certain topics or subjects of interest (I love obsessive people), subscribe to this curious letter called Busyminds, follow my Monday Map and Curious Weekends, and you will pick up the tools you need to pursue your curiosity. See you.
