Happy new month reader, let’s do great things wherever we are.
— A loss of faith need not yield condescension. Nor should believing in something breed disdain. Idols are not real to you; so what? Does that mean you should treat with disdain believers who refuse to eat food sacrificed to idols? And what if you have lost faith in a formal system? Does that mean those who retain faith in it are stupid drones? Alternatives do not have to be antagonisms; many different things can co-exist. Still, all things are not relative.
— Practise being-for more, and practise being-against less. Being for already makes you against. On occasions where there is nothing to be against, enjoy what you are for. On the occasion where you must oppose, do it honourably. Enemies are abundant; don’t seek out fights, they will come to you.
— Quit lying that you don’t need social approval. You do not have to fully retreat into an inner citadel. Find freedom in external chaos. participate in social drama. Look your vanity and desires in the eye and accept them; this is freedom. And friend, declutter that inner citadel to make room for the things which really matter.
— There is no enjoying community with others without making a few visits to Procrustes’ inn and laying on his bed once in a while. It just is necessary. Some limbs and organs must go. Amputation is the way to enjoy community.
— My curse: the love of longwinded writers and writing. Sure, brevity is wit. But in a ghastly irony, witty people say many things howbeit in beautiful ways. The genius is knowing when to pick moments of brevity.
— Skillmanship is to wield the hammer beautifully to the admiration of others. Prudence is to look from the problem to the toolbox and tell the world that this is not the time for hammers. You might have this hammered into you, however, “you are just jealous you don’t know how to wield hammers beautifully.” Carry your cross.
— Let go of the dashes.
— I know no one who hates the smell of new. Happy new month.
